As you are aware the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a growing concern globally. President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on the 15 March 2020 and outlined several stipulations and guidelines which echo the global directive prescribed by the World Health Organisation and the National Institute of Communicable Disease.
The STADIO School of Education is taking the possible threat of infection seriously. The health and safety of the student body remains our prime concern during this crisis. The STADIO School of Education has therefore instituted the following decisions about teaching and learning – for both on-campus (contact) learning and off-campus (distance) learning:
On-Campus /Contact Learning
All contact learning/on campus lectures will be suspended with immediate effect (from Tuesday, 17 March 2020 to Monday, 13 April 2020). Teaching, learning and assessment will however continue online – to be delivered via a range of options including live streaming of lectures, pre-recorded presentations and ECI activities. All communication in this regard will be done via ECI. Students must remain alert to any ECI and Email communications (using the Embury email address). These alternative online module deliveries will commence on Tuesday, 31 March 2020.
The delivery of the DL curriculum will continue, but all planned face to face learning events will only be available via live streaming or pre-recorded presentations accessed via ECI.
Post Graduate Certificate in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching
The delivery of PGCE teaching and learning will continue online, but all planned face to face sessions will only be available via live streaming and pre-recorded presentations on ECI.
The three campuses will remain open. There will be limited administrative and support staff available to assist with student queries. Students will be able to access IT support and WI-FI using their own devices. Student Support Services (contact and distance learning) will continue to provide on-line support to students. All students can come onto campus to watch live streamed and pre-recorded presentations or access ECI. Students will be required to practice social distancing and all necessary hygiene measures whilst on campus.
A review of all assessment tasks and due dates will be carried out and all changes will be communicated to students via ECI or email. Should you have a query please note you can contact the Student Support Services on all campuses telephonically or via email.
All teaching practice attendance will be resumed after 13 April 2020. The relevant Module Coordinator (MC) will communicate with you via ECI.
We encourage our students to keep up to date with all communications and read your Embury emails daily. For more information on how to deal with the threats of this virus, please visit the Embury website.
These are obviously serious steps taken by the institution considering the current state of emergency. STADIO School of Education EXCO has instituted the changes above using all the information available to it as at 16 March 2020. We will be monitoring and reviewing the situation daily.
We are aware that this is a disruptive and challenging situation, however the academic teams at the STADIO School of Education remain committed to ensuring you meet your academic requirements. We encourage all students to engage in appropriate hygiene practises and ensure that they follow the National Institute of Communicable Disease directions should they or a family member present with any symptoms of the COVID19.
